Q: Blocked ears?
Hi,
I regularly get blocked ears. I put ear drops in every week to keep the wax soft, but at least once a year my ears still block up (as my right one has now!!).
My GP refuses to syringe my ears (they only do it in the very elderly at my practice) and sends me home and keeps telling me to put the drops in. This does work, but it can often take weeks for the wax to clear and for my hearing to return to normal. In the meantime, I get very frustrated and depressed about not being able to hear properly – it makes me feel all dizzy and out of sorts!
Does anyone else have this problem? If so, how do you treat it – any recommendations?
Thank you.
A: Hopi ear candles (Use Biosun ones) every time. Fantastic – pulls out the offending wax. Relaxing therapy without any pressure & discomfort.
Q: blocked ears! =(?
Ive always had problems with my ears. I recently found out that I have small ear canals so thats why they get blocked up easily. Anyways I woke up with a blocked ear and I dont have time to get it syringed because im seeing a guy I like on saturday!! I have to see the doctor in order for them to give the ‘ok’ to the nurse to syringe it.
Is there anything else? I tried olive oil and its not working. HELP! It feels so uncomfortable =(
A: Hydrogen peroxide dissolves wax build up. Put a few drops in and lay on your side until the bubbling stops (indicating that the chemical is done and wax is loosened – wait up to 30 minutes). Clean out your ears and repeat until ear canal is clear. Do this every couple of days and you should never have build up again. My clear ears swear by it!!
Q: Blocked Ears!!!!?
I was listening to loud music on ear phones for over an hour but it wasnt extremely loud. I listen to music like this nearly everyday but one day my left ear was blocked and felt heavy. For 2 days it has been like this but now suddenly my other ear is blocked too. I have stopped listening to music now. I can hear properly though, the same way i used to. I went to the doctor and she said my ear canals are cleaned and said to wait for a week and see if they get unblocked.
Can anyone suggest what rong with me or how can i unblock them.
A: This could be from your continued use of heaphones to listen to music or it could be congestion. Try getting some Sudafed from the pharmacist and see if that helps. If it does then it is congestion. If that doesn’t help you just have to wait and see and update your doc if it doesn’t go away in a week.
Q: What can I do about blocked ears due to a cold?
I have a cold and it’s almost gone but I’ve got blocked ears at the moment. I really want to know how to unblock them. I have a school production to perform in tonight so I’d really like them unblocked soon. Is there anything I can do at home to unblock them without having to go to the chemist? Thanks.
A: I just suffered though this condition myself, and I also tend to prefer non-checmical solutions when possible. My doctor suggested hot showers and/or leaning over a steaming bowl of water with a towel over my head (the steam helps to increase moisture in the passageways to encourage movement of fluid) and to drink lots of water (also to increase hydration). The steaming (in shower and out) did help to loosen the blockage and get it moving, but it took about a month before it went away completely.
If you need it gone sooner, you may need to see the chemist. My dcotor indicated that some steroids can be used to clear it up. You may also want to check with your doctor (if you haven’t already) just to be sure there is no infection and that the problem really is the build up of fluid behind your eardrum.
Q: Do blocked ears indicate the onset of a cold?
I’ve had blocked ears for the past week or so, and have felt slightly light-headed from time to time. Is this the start of a cold, or could it be something else?
A: Most likely, your ears are connected to you nasal passages and when you get a stuffy nose it can sometimes block your ears. if after the cold your ears are still blocked, see a doctor.
Q: What is the best way to prevent blocked ears on a plane trip?
Soon I am going on a plane trip to the gold coast
Just you know when the plane is taking off and your ears get blocked what is the best way to prevent that? interesting stars please xD Ok thankyou!!!!! xx
A: Make sure you don’t fly while your head is congested (allergies, cold, etc.), as this is the major cause of ear blocks, which can be very painful.
Other than that, chew gum, yawn, or swallow air to help keep your ears unblocked. It’s usually more of a problem when the airplane is coming in to land than it is after take-off, for physiological reasons.
If you are descending and they refuse to unblock, pinch your nose shut, close your mouth, exhale, and swallow. This usually helps force air into your middle ears to unblock them. It only works on the way down.
Q: How to get rid of blocked ears?
I went to a water theme park yesterday, and my ears has been blocked ever since. Is there a way to get rid of it? I’ve tried pouring water into my ears, but it not working. I’ve also tried yawning.
A: I would take an antihisamine. They “dry” you up and so will help drain your sinuses (which is the likely part of the problem) and help clear your ears.
Q: Does blocked ears make your temperature rise?
Iv had blocked ears for a few hours now, and i feel that my head especially my face is very hot.
A: No.
But blocked ears and a fever can be caused by an ear infection, or related to a sinus infection..
Q: Two blocked ears, how do you know if its just wax build up?
I have two blocked ears and am getting worried about becoming deaf, so how can i tell if its just major wax buildup that needs cleaning or something more serious?
I can still hear but not very well as when they are unblocked.
How many drops of eardrops should i put in my ears and how long should i wait before inserting a cotton wool in the ear?
Not very familiar with eye drops so i need to know the best way to use them so i don’t use them wrongly -.-
Thanks.
A: eardrops will only soften the wax it wont remove the build-up of wax…go see your g.p and get them to syringe your ears.
Q: How do you cure blocked ears?
Its driving my nuts! I recently got over a cold and my ears are still blocked. I’ve tried holding my nose and exhaling. They’re clean but I can’t seem to get them unblocked. Any ideas?
A: I use a few drops of peroxide in each ear.
Q: How to get rid of blocked ears and stuffy nose?
Ive recently had the flu
along with sinus trouble…. But im feeling a bit better now however ive now got blocked ears lol its not sore at all, just a little uncomfortable cause my hearing is muffled… Is this normal after the flu? Ive got some Otrivine for my nose but i heard putting drops in does more damage than good. Any advice would be appreciated.
Shall i just let it run its course? Many thanks
!
i think i posted this in wrong section. opps.
haha no djokerfan.. well im from uk, so rafa will be playing around 10am in the morning..! I cant sleep just now tho
and its nearly half 4!!
A: Symptoms like these are very common after a respiratory infection. If you can make your ears ‘pop’, this may help with the blocked feeling there, which is caused by fluid build up behind the eardrum, which is linked to the sinuses. Otherwise you could try steam inhalation or buy decongestant tablets such as Sudafed.
Q: How Do You Get Ride of Blocked Ears?
I have a blocked ear at the moment (right) and nothing seems to unblock it. Is it an infection? Please Help?
A: If it hasnt come unblocked on its own after a while it is most likely a build up of wax or another material in your ear drum. Dont try to use a cotton swab or any other instrument to get it out because this will damage your ear and push any ,aterial down further. See a doctor / nurse and if it is waxy build up they will syringe your ear with warm water which will dislodge any blockage.
Q: Ears blocked from the inside. What could the cause be and how can it be fixed?
I’m not run down, and am in otherwise good health, but about a week ago I woke up with muffled hearing, like my ears are blocked. The doctor suggested decongestants and Vicks sinex, which I am using, but they don’t seem to be making any difference. I don’t have a blocked nose or anything like that. Could there be some other cause of my deafness or should I just persevere with the decongestants.
A: I’m currently suffering from the same problem. I flew to Gran Canaria last week, along with my cold! When I stepped off the plane, I realised my ears hadn’t “popped” – and they still haven’t! (I’m back in the UK now!) I visited the chemist both in Gran Canaria and back home, they have told me to just persevere and keep on using the Sudafed decongestant three times daily. Once or twice a day I get a sharp pain in my right ear – which is the one that is mostly blocked – I’m hoping there’s no permanent damage.
Pharmacist recommends not to try and “pop” your ears yourself, but to let them “pop” in their own time.
Bloody nuisance tho!
Q: How can i prevent blocked ears?
i am constantly needing my ears drained every few months… its such a hassle.. i don’t even go swimming (as that is a main reason why ears block).. i’m sick of the dizzy spells and headaches due from having blocked ears as well.. What can be done to make sure they remain clear?
A: Try to bent your head sideway. Let’s say your left ear is the blocked one. So, bend your head leftward. Then JUMP! So that whatever is inside your left ear will fall. By the way, do you blow your nose too hard? Blowing too hard can cause ear blocking.
Be sure to eat more fruits rich in Vitamin C. Take care and GOD BLESS!!!!!
Q: How do you deal with blocked ears?
my right ear is always blocked..could be the wax or something else. not sure.
A: if it’s wax, get a small amount of olive oil and heat it up for 30 secs in the microwave and wait for it to cool a little. When it is warm enough to penetrate through the wax but is not going to scald you. put a few drops into your ear with a pippette or something similar and lay on the opposite ear for a minute or 2. Place some cotton wool lightly in your ear to stop it leaking down your neck when you sit back up!
You will hear the wax being penetrated and you will feel a small pop (perhaps not the first time you do this, you may need to try it before going to bed as well as when you get up).
Sit up after about 2 mins and you will feel your ear drain a little and will feel more clear. Just repeat it a couple of times and your hearing will return to normal!
Works a treat, honest! and because its a natural remedy, it doesn’t harm your ears at all!
