Q: Is it normal for gluten intolerance symptoms to last 2 weeks or longer??
I ate some thing that contained gluten accidently and my stomach has been bloated for 2 weeks. Is that normal, last time it only lasted a week. I have tried glutenease, ginger tea, alovera juice and it won’t go away.
A: It just depends on your system. It can last that long very easily. Some one who has an intolerance to gluten, their body doesn’t process it as quickly as someone who tolerates it. You body is probably;y still trying to absorb it and push it through your system. If you are desperate, you could try a clay bath. It’s messy, but it will suck out anything your body isn’t processing well. Google clay baths, there are all kinds. Otherwise just wait it out.
Q: Hi can any1 please tel me wat are the symptoms of IBS&gluten intolerance? And what are the differences? Thanks?
Hello can anyone please tell me what are the symptom’s of IBS and the symptom’s of gluten intolerance? And what are the differences? Thank you.
A: IBS & gluton intolerance symptons are chronic diarrhea, constipa-
tion, gas, bloating, abdominal pain, or a
combination of any of those symptoms.
its easier to read this. I can copy & paste but its just as easy to give you the site. http://www.ibstreatmentcenter.com/Newsletters/MidMar2008.pdf
Q: What are the symptoms of gluten intolerance?
A: Stomach cramps, diarrhea, nausea, especially right after eating foods with gluten in them.
Another name for gluten intolerance is Celiac Sprue. It’s often diagnosed by having an endoscopic test of the lower GI tract. The doctor will take small samples of tissue, then examine it under a microscope.
There are less invasive ways of determining if you have it, but this test, although a little uncomfortable, is the best and quickest way of ruling it out, etc.
See your doctor and ask for a referral to a Gastroenterologist.
Good luck
Q: What are the symptoms of having a gluten intolerance?
My doctor says that such an intolerance does not exist. I have eczema, digesting problems and my skin breaks out in rashes a lot. How do I find out if I have an intolerance?
A: You have the symptoms of either or both celiac disease and/or dermititis herpetiformis which are both gluten intolerance conditions. There is also something called non celiac gluten intolerance where the person tests negative for celiac disease but feels better on a gluten free diet. So the first thing to do is see about a new doctor. Keep eating gluten containing foods right now until you get tested. Look at the support groups in www.csaceliacs.org and find one close to you and see if they know of a doctor that works with them. That would be the first step. Then get tested, and after the tests, go on a gluten free diet to see if the symptoms go away. If the tests are positive, then a gluten free diet should see everything clear up.
Q: What other problems have the symptoms of gluten intolerance?
For years I’ve had the majority of the symptoms of gluten intolerance (stomach problems, lack of energy, etc.) I’ve been to so many doctors who couldn’t figure out what’s wrong with me. It wasn’t until a little over a month ago when one of them even suggested that my problem could be related to gluten. So since then I’ve been gluten free, but I haven’t noticed any difference so its clearly not that. Through the years I’ve also been taken off dairy products, had my thyroid checked, had several ultrasounds. Everything was normal and being off dairy didn’t do anything either. So basically I was wondering if anyone knows of anything with similar symptoms to gluten-related problems? Oh by the way, I’m a 19 year old female if that eliminates anything. Thanks!
A: I am surprised that you have not had at the very least the celiac blood screening panel or an endoscopy!! Have you had an appt. with a Gastroenterologist and an Endocrinologist??
It usually takes more than a month for your symptoms to be relieved since you have to grow new villi and all that. I would highly suggest that you go back to the doctor and talk about doing a gluten challenge and getting the bloodwork done.
If that comes back negative, then you need other intolerances ruled out such as soy, casein, etc. It took me almost a year to weed out all the sources of gluten (it is hidden everywhere) so unless you are eating whole, fresh foods in a totally gluten free environment (not using same pots, pans, cooking utensils, toaster, etc) as gluten eating members of your family, then you are NOT eating gluten free.
You also have to check your makeup, vitamins, herbal teas, etc. for gluten as well. So honestly, I am very doubtful that you are truly gluten free with only a month of this under your belt…
That being said, go back to your doctor, ask about doing a gluten challenge and get the celiac screening bloodwork. That should be your first step.
Good luck, I am not trying to be mean or harsh with you, but I don’t want you to rule that out so quickly when it could be the issue and I would hate for you to have an unnecessary delay in your diagnosis!
P.S. Just to clarify something, celiac is NOT an allergy, it is an AUTOIMMUNE disease like chron’s, diabetes, lupus!!
Q: How would you know if you have a Gluten intolerance? what are some of the symptoms?
My doctor told me i was but i am not sure because i never had symptoms from eating it….what do people usually get to know for sure?.
A: sickness
general feeling ill
bloated belly
im sure if your doctor told you you have it you do
you can do a blood test for it
Q: Can it be celiac disease or gluten intolerance if someone has GERD symptoms?
A: Yes, many believe that Gerd is as simple as a food alergy with a few other symptoms. I try not to use traditional medications becuase none have worked for me, however, I have tried these and they seem to work rather well, let me know how they work for you.
I am not a doctor, so either way you will want to talk to them, but this is what I have to say as a long time sufferer of Acid Reflux (G.E.R.D.)!
Three part answer: information, what not to do, and what to do!
INFORMATION!!!!!!
I have a very severe case of Acid Reflux (G.E.R.D.). I have had to go to the hospital for some of the heartburn that I have had because the pain can become overwhelming or your breathing can be effected. It can be caused by Smoking, Drinking Beverages with caffeine (My case with hereditary), Drinking Beverages with Alcohol, Stress, Anxiety or can be Hereditary
The good thing about G.E.R.D. is that it can be a temporary thing and can be cured. It is never a permit thing even if you end up with it for the rest of your life it has the ability to be cured.
G.E.R.D. is caused by too much acid being created in your stomach. This can lead to or cause ulcers, esophagus damage, heartburn and/or damage in the mouth. . Other symptoms that can be found in a few cases are dizziness, tingling in limbs, numbness of Limbs, Chest/Back pain focused on the left side (in most cases), and shortness/difficulty breathing.
WHAT NOT TO DO!!!!!!!!
In most cases, stress is a factor to the reflux if you watch what you eat and reduce some of the stress it will help. If you watch what you eat for about a week you should find relief, if you do not then that is when you definitely what to listen to the doctor. Things to watch for are as follows:
Fatty Foods
Citrus Foods
Foods That Contain Grease
Fried Foods
Chocolate (including any Coco)
Caffeine
Smoking
Alcohol
Tomato Based Products
Lactose
Roughage (Berries and Nuts)
Onions
WHAT TO DO!!!!
The two foods that I recommend is Black strap Molasses and Raw honey. The apple is better for night time reflux while these will work for just about all of it. What you will do is take about a tsp. of whatever one you chose. Molasses being the better because of strength and nutrition, but must be use to the taste. What the substance will do is stick to the sides of the esophagus and do two things, one is heal and the other is protect.
On the healing end, both substances have a healing property in them, and as they sit on the walls of the esophagus they will heal it. This is also helpful if you have a sore throat in the morning from refluxing.
On the protection end, both substances are high in sugar and when acid that is refluxed comes up to that the sugar will neutralize it and it will not longer be a problem at that point.
I would also look to putting Cinnamon and Ginger in you diet, they have been know to help with digestion and will help you reduce the amount of acid needed to brake down food, therefore causing you to reflux less.
Q: what are the symptoms of celiac’s disease (gluten intolerance)?
help me please i need to know. my boyfriend may have this disease but can’t afford going to the doctor and does not have insurance. please serious answers only. this is very important and any help would be greatly appreciated. 10 points available. please provide links if you’ve gotten info from a website. I’d like to know where to look up more information. =] thanks again folks.
A: The symptoms for celiac disease vary from person to person and so it is very hard to give a complete list of symptoms and say that is celiac disease. Plus the symptoms can be caused by several different diseases.
If he can’t go to the doctor because it is too expensive and he doesn’t have insurance then the simplest way to diagnose celiac disease is to go on a gluten free diet for 2-3 months and see if his symptoms go away. This method also will find out if he is allergic to wheat or gluten or has non-celiac gluten intolerance. You just won’t know which it is but that isn’t a big deal since treatment is the same– avoid gluten.
The easiest way to go on a gluten free diet is to only eat fresh fruits and veggies, non- processed fresh meat, chicken, pork, fish, eggs, cheese. Add in rice and potatoes for starches and you have a basic gluten free diet. Avoid commercially prepared sauces and gravies and anything else processed unless you know what all the ingredients are. Gluten hides in many things. If the diet works for him, then you will have to start learning to read labels, find substitutes etc.
I have added a list of websites that are helpful.
If this diet works for him, then if he ever wants to get a celiac test, he will have to go back to eating gluten to determine if he has celiac disease.
Q: If my test for gluten-intolerance came back normal, as in I am apparently not intolerant or have coeliacs, why?
do I seem to get symptoms of gluten intolerance when I have things like bread?
A: I just went through the same thing. I went in to speak with my doctor and thought it was gluten-intolerant. He listened to my symptoms and did the blood test as well as an ultra sound on my gallbladder. Turns out I have gallstones which can have the same reaction on the body, but not in reaction to wheat, in reaction to fatty foods and large meals. Maybe that’s whats really going on?
Q: Can Celiacs Disease (Gluten Intolerance) cause these symptoms?
I have been tested for almost everything. I’m either battling Lyme Disease or Celiac Disease. Anyone with experience with the two could you let me know which one it could be?
Muscle Weakness
Ringing in left ear
Burning calf muscle sensation
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (when off raw food diet)
General and Extreme Fatigue
Muscle Twitching
The feeling or sensation that nothing is real
Pale face complexion
Dark and foul smelling urine (sorry for being gross)
Stomach rumbling
Nausea that comes and goes for an hour
Cloudy vision and floaters
Dry mouth
Thanks Guys!!
The thing is I started eating a raw food diet and taking oregano oil and the symptoms have seem to vanish little by little. I ate some bread for the first time a couple days ago and most of these symptoms got worse but we are also battling heavy heat in Jersey and they say that can invoke Lyme detox.
A: Celiac can cause many of the same symptoms as Lyme disease. To complicate things further, many people with Lyme disease develop a gluten-intolerance. So there is a lot of overlap between the two.
“The Lyme Diet: Nutritional Strategies for healing from Lyme disease,” is a book that delves into the ways that gluten (and other problematic foods) can severely impact your health, especially if you have Lyme disease (but even if you don’t.) Highly recommend it.

Q: Gluten intolerance or celiac?
I have been off and on a gluten free diet. I’ll go for 3 weeks without gluten and feel great! But then, last week i ate a lot of whole grain crackers because i began to doubt i had an allergy. The next day/several days later i was depressed, extremely irritable and just felt angry. My stomach was also “pouchy” symptoms i normally get are usually bad stomach pain (so bad i can’t even twist to the side or stand up all the way) followed by the moodiness. Do these 2 things sound like gluten intolerance symptoms? It would be helpfull if someone with an intolerance or celiac could help me out. Thanks!
A: Yes it does sound like you possibly have a gluten intolerance. So either stay on a gluten containing diet and get tested for celiac disease. You have to stay on gluten for the tests or you will possibly get a false negative. Then after the tests you can go gluten free.
Q: Gluten Intolerance?!?
I am 18 and am just starting to have many symptoms of someone that is gluten intolerant. Is it possible to just become diagnosed with this, this far into life? and could it have possibly just started affecting me now?
how can that be possible if i have eaten gluten for all these years, to just now be diagnosed?
A: Yes, it can come up at any time. Diseases that involve the immune system like this (and like allergies, too) can happen at any age. There isn’t a very good understanding as to why this happens, but there seems to be a trigger for most people, like a virus or really bad stress. If you want to be sure that this is what you have, you’ll have to go to a dr. They can do a blood test and can do an endoscopy or colonoscopy to biopsy parts of your small intestine. I don’t have celiac disease, but I have an allergy to gluten (they are different things). So, I can say that it is a major nuisance to not be able to eat gluten, but it isn’t the end of the world. The worst is eating out, but there are some restaurants that are good about providing safe food.

Q: Has anyone with celiac’s disease or a gluten intolerance…..?
Has anyone with celiac’s or gluten intolerance experienced the symptoms of sensitivity skin (mine is a severe allergy to nickel), infertility, and joint pain.
If you have it could you please tell me if the infertility goes away after you adjust to a gluten free diet?
Thanks so much.
A: Hello! I have celiac disease and have been on a gluten free diet for a year. Infertility goes away once you remove gluten from the diet and your labs return to normal.
Skin irritation is common in Celiac disease but I am not familiar with joint pain. All symtems associated with Celiac disease disappear once you remove gluten and your labs return to normal.
Email with questions! I’ve been where you are!
Q: What are the symptoms of lactose intolerance?
I am pretty sure I have gluten intolerance and lactose intolerance goes hand in hand with that.
I dont eat a lot of dairy except a little cheese now and then and milk in my coffee three or more times a day
I am always bloated, and if I eat cheese or ice cream at night I always wake up with nausea the next morning..
A: Sounds like you are lactose intolerant, you are showing classic symptoms. Try using soy creamer for coffee. Soy milk or rice milk instead of using milk. There is soy cheese and there is a ice cream also made from soy/rice milk.
Q: I am gluten intolerant and I ate gluten, how can I lessen the symptoms?
I had gravy which I didn’t know contained gluten, I was just recently diagnosed with gluten intolerance. Anyway, my stomach is bloated and it hurts. Are there any remedies that can help? Please help this is horrible. I have been bloated for 4 days
A: some ppl use a product called GlutenEase. It is not meant for ppl with celiac disease but some Celiacs swear it does ease the symptoms of accidental glutenings–but it is NOT a green light to purposely consume gluten.
Otherwise, when Im accidentally glutened, I drink lots of water and take aloe vera juice (follow directions on label, buy at health food stores) to help get things moving! (if u suffer from diarehha, dont use the juice) eat lots of GF fiber and just wait it out! Heating pad on the belly always helps to! Hope that helps
